Additional Program Information

Oakland Zoo is a champion for elephants! In addition to our leadership in promoting natural behaviors, health and well-being for elephants in captivity through proper management, an important part of our mission is to educate the public about elephant conservation and the threats facing elephants in the wild. Did you know about all the ways Oakland Zoo supports elephants in the wild, and how you can help?

  • Amboseli Trust for Elephants, led by world-renowned researcher and African elephant expert Cynthia Moss, has been one of our field partners for twenty years. Through our annual ‘Celebrating Elephants’ day event and evening lecture we have been able to raise over $250,000 for ATE over the years. This money goes straight to the project, helping support research as well as protecting wild elephants in the greater Amboseli ecosystem of southern Kenya. By attending this event and our Celebrating Elephants Day at the Zoo on May 27th, you are helping to support ATE's important work.
  • The Oakland A's are a proud sponsor of Celebrating Elephants at Oakland Zoo.
